The Move Through Yoga program is aligned with the Colorado State Physical Education Standards, and ensures that all students, in and out of adapted PE, have a safe, educational and empowering, mind-body experience.
The Move Through Yoga (MTY) adapted PE program systematically guides students through a multifaceted curriculum that: encourages movement competences and understanding such as following cues for simple breath and body sequences; prepares students to advocate for their comprehensive physical wellness (including their emotional and social wellness) through interactive lessons on nutrition, as well as lessons on mindfulness and meditation to cope with stress and internal conflict; and facilitates risk management by addressing unhealthy, self destructive behavior patterns, and provides a safe, non-judgemental space to explore healthier outlets. Students of all academic backgrounds, who move through yoga learn to move through life with greater physical, and emotional awareness, and are undeniably more flexible on and off the mat!! "My son Michael has Autism and had been receiving occupational therapy twice a week for the past 13 years. When we moved, my son’s new school offered Move Through Yoga. I made sure Michael was in that class and it was best decision I ever made for him!
The Move Through Yoga® program not only taught Michael about his body, strength, and awareness of his body in space, it also put him in touch with his mind. His concentration improved, and he became more social, calm, confident and stronger than he has ever been. Yoga improved his overall function. Michael has been doing yoga for 5 years now and has learned so much from yoga, and I am so proud of his most recent accomplishment: he is now a yoga teacher. I believe that yoga helped him maintain all A’s for all four years of high school and gave him something positive to belong to. The Move Through Yoga® program works! He is the proof that a little yoga in your day can change your life!” ~ Randy Gorlano, Mother |
